PRESS RELEASE:
AGREEMENT REACHED ON MOTOR INDUSTRY ACCREDITATION FOR INSTALLATION TECHNICIANS
The Mobile Electronics and Security Federation have agreed with the Institute of the Motor Industry to develop Vehicle Enhancement Automotive Technician Accreditation for technicians working in this industry. ATA for vehicle service and diagnostic technicians was launched by the IMI in 2005 to meet the motor industry’s need to convince the government and consumer organisations that it was being serious about raising standards of workmanship and customer satisfaction. Failure to do so would result in government imposed and regulated standards. The original ATA scheme now has over 4000, and rising every week, accredited technicians and new ATAs for Roadside Repair, Motorcycles and Fast Fit are about to be launched. The MESF has always maintained that we are part of the motor industry so it was a logical move to propose a mobile electronics’ ATA.
To give the accreditation its widest scope it will be called Vehicle Enhancement ATA. The MESF’s training and qualifications, the Vehicle Enhancement Certification Programme, will be more prominent than ever as it will provide the training and background required to gain the new ATA accreditation. As the motor industry moves towards requiring ATA accreditation for technicians to work on their vehicles during warranty periods and on safety critical systems anyway, it will be essential for installation technicians to gain their Vehicle Enhancement ATA.
As always, the MESF will work to keep the fees as low as possible and also ensure that MESF members and their employees gain extra benefit for their commitment. Vehicle Enhancement ATA will bring to an end to the ‘love/hate’ relationship between the two industries and ensure we have a future as the part of the motor industry that gives consumers the latest advances in technology and services.
We urge all installation technicians to get started on VECP training to be ready to be the first to gain Vehicle Enhancement ATA as soon as it is launched. MESF members will be the first to get news and updates on progress.
